Hi there,
This month's tip: test your speed at the busiest time
Run a speed test on a weeknight evening, when everyone at home is online. If your plan is 500 Mbps and you never come close to using it, a lower tier may work just as well and cost less. Ask your provider what plans are available, and note when any promotional price ends.
More in The internet speed you need, or compare your setup with the phone and internet bill calculator.
One bill line, explained
Regulatory cost recovery fee: despite the name, this is usually a fee the carrier sets, not a government tax. It counts toward what your plan really costs. See Read your phone bill.
Reader question
"My phone suddenly said 'No service' and then I got a password reset email. What's happening?" That can be a sign of a SIM swap. Call your carrier right away from another phone, and set a PIN and port-out protection on your account. See SIM swap and port-out scams.
